It is important that we change with the seasons — just as nature does — by adapting our daily habits, yoga practice and food choices to what is happening around us in the season.
If we learn to adapt to how our environment changes, we have the best chance of staying grounded during this season of transition and transformation. We can build up our immunity (ojas) for the tough seasons ahead, rather than deplete it.
September brings the first inkling of fall. Trees and shrubs are slowly shedding their covering in preparation for the winter. There is a subtle browning of the earth. Temperatures, which were raging just a few weeks ago are beginning to get crisp and cool. In Ayurveda, the fall brings with it a predominance of air element -- the vata dosha. The qualities (or gunas) of the vata are dry, rough, windy, erratic, cool, subtle, and clear. These are also the qualities of the fall. Like increases like in Ayurveda. This same principle illustrates why taking a few simple steps to balance vata this fall can be tremendously beneficial. Ritucharya, or following a seasonal routine is an important cornerstone of health, year around. This workshop will include a lecture on how Ayurveda views seasonal routines, specifically fall, and how to adopt your diet, yoga and movement practice, and lifestyle choices to stay grounded, balanced, and to ward off the fall and winter sicknesses that seem to be a hallmark of this time of year. Workshop is 2.5 hours and includes lecture and full fall-appropriate Jivamukti yoga class.
